Biography

Gary Rosen is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Southern California Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University, awarded in 1980, where he also obtained his M.S. and B.S. degrees in Applied Mathematics and Mathematics respectively. His research interests encompass topics related to modeling, estimation, control, and optimal design of systems governed by infinite dimensional systems, particularly partial differential equations. He has developed and analyzed numerical approximation methods and efficient computational algorithms for local and global optimization. His innovative studies include the development of intelligent methods for the manufacture of advanced semiconductor devices and data assimilation techniques for global assimilative models of the ionosphere. His work extends to the application of passive non-invasive alcohol biosensors and the adjoint method for optimal design in nano-scale layered quantum electronic devices. Rosen has also served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Control System Technology.
