Biography

Professor Gary Velan is a dedicated medical educator with over 30 years of experience at UNSW. He has served as the Head of the Department of Pathology from 2005 to 2016 and as the Director of Learning and Teaching Development from 2011 to 2018. In 2016, he was appointed Associate Dean (Education) in the Faculty of Medicine and became Senior Vice Dean (Education) in 2018. His contributions to educational scholarship have been recognized with fellowships and awards, including the Fellowship from the Australian New Zealand Association of Health Professional Educators (ANZAHPE), the UNSW Vice Chancellor's Awards for Teaching Excellence, and the NSW Minister for Education's Quality Teaching Award.
