Biography

Gautam Hans is a Clinical Professor of Law and the founding Director of the Civil Rights Civil Liberties Clinic (CRCLC) at Cornell Law School. The CRCLC engages in cases and projects that cover a wide range of topics, with a keen focus on free speech and association, as well as current issues involving emerging technologies. Professor Hans has contributed to various amicus briefs and policy advocacy initiatives. He earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree with honors from the University of Michigan Law School, an M.S. in Information Policy from the University of Michigan School of Information, and a B.A. in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University. During his graduate studies, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Michigan Telecommunications Technology Law Review and was a student-attorney in both the Entrepreneurship Clinic and the Civil-Criminal Litigation Clinic. Prior to attending graduate school, he worked as an editorial assistant at Knopf Group, Random House.
