Biography

Gautam Iyer is a Professor and Associate Director of the Center for Nonlinear Analysis at Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on partial differential equations (PDEs) that arise in applied mathematics. Early contributions to the field include probabilistic representations of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations, which describe the evolution of incompressible fluids. His current research interests encompass global existence questions for PDEs related to fluid dynamics, mixing of passive scalars, self-similarity in size distributions, and the Smoluchowski coagulation equations. Furthermore, he is intrigued by the study of homogenization effects over intermediate time scales resulting from anomalous diffusion, utilizing analytical tools and probabilistic techniques inherent to PDEs.
