Biography

Gavin Hesketh is currently the Head of High Energy Physics at University College London, where he is also a Physics Coordinator for the Mu3e Experiment and co-convener for the EDM Search Muon g-2 project. Originally from North East England, he completed his BSc in Physics at the University of Manchester before continuing to earn his PhD in particle physics. His doctoral work took place at Fermilab near Chicago, where he was involved in the D0 experiment at the Tevatron, one of the highest energy particle accelerators in the world. After completing his PhD, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Northeastern University, continued at CERN as a Fellow working on the CMS experiment, and joined UCL in 2010 as a Royal Society University Research Fellow, initially contributing to the ATLAS experiment. In 2018, he transitioned to the Muon g-2 and Mu3e initiatives. He is dedicated to science communication, having written the general reader's guide "Particle Zoo" and participated in various public speaking events and science engagement projects. Hesketh has contributed to a range of educational and outreach activities, including events at the Royal Society, Science Museum, and the BBC.
