Biography

Gavin Morley is a professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Warwick and the founding director of Warwick Quantum, an interdisciplinary initiative focusing on quantum technology. His research group specializes in creating quantum science and technology using nitrogen-vacancy color centers in diamond. He leads the project 'Macroscopic Superpositions Witnessing Quantum Nature Gravity' and is part of the Diamond Quantum Technology Lab, the Quantum Biomedical Sensing Research Hub, the Integrated Quantum Networks Hub, and the Centre for Doctoral Training in Diamond Science and Technology. His work includes exploring quantum technologies and materials that enable electron and nuclear spins in diamonds to store quantum information for extended periods. He is also investigating the use of single nitrogen-vacancy centers for magnetometry and the potential of building a quantum computer with large ensembles of nitrogen-vacancy centers. Furthermore, he aims to test the quantum nature of gravity by levitating micro-diamonds in a vacuum to observe quantum superposition effects.
