Biography

Gea Dreschler is an Assistant Professor in English Linguistics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds a PhD in English Linguistics from Radboud University Nijmegen, awarded in 2015. Her research interests include syntax, information structure, language change, and contrastive Dutch-English linguistics. Dreschler's PhD thesis examined the introduction of unusual types of passives in fourteenth-century English and the interaction with verb loss. Her current research focuses on unusual subjects and subjects in unusual places within English syntax. She has been involved in projects investigating the historical development of language structures and is a member of the Scientific Network on Non-canonical Syntax in English, funded by the German Research Foundation. In addition to research, Dreschler teaches courses in Academic Writing and supervises master's students in topics related to translation and academic writing. She actively engages in initiatives to enhance academic language skills, including grants to explore the impact of tools like ChatGPT on academic writing. Her educational background includes an MPhil in Linguistics from Leiden University and a BA in English Language and Culture, also from Leiden University.
