Biography

Gediminas Urbonas is an artist, researcher, and educator at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he serves as Co-Director of the MIT-Eurasia Program. He has established an international reputation for his socially engaged interdisciplinary practices which explore complex conflicts and contradictions posed by economic, social, and political conditions. His work focuses on transforming civic spaces and fostering public interaction encouraged through art. Urbonas has exhibited in prominent venues including the São Paulo Biennale, Gwangju Biennale, and Documenta 11, and has participated in numerous biennials and triennials globally. He has contributed to several high-level art initiatives and received multiple awards, including the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts.
