Geert Leus was born in Leuven, Belgium. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from KU Leuven, Belgium, in 1996 and 2000, respectively. Following his studies, he worked as a Research Assistant and Postdoctoral Fellow at KU Leuven from October 1996 to September 2003. He spent the summer of 1998 as a visiting researcher at Stanford University and returned to the University of Minnesota from March 2001 to 2002. Currently, he is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Netherlands. His research interests encompass a broad area of signal processing, including communications sensing, distributed signal processing, graph signal processing, and applications such as underwater communications and cognitive radio systems. He has received numerous awards in recognition of his contributions to the field, including the 2021 EURASIP Individual Technical Achievement Award, the 2005 IEEE Signal Processing Society Paper Award, and the 2002 IEEE Signal Processing Society Young Author Paper Award. In addition to his research, he serves in various roles within professional organizations, including as a Fellow of IEEE and EURASIP.
