Professor Dr. Geert Verbong

Biography

Geert Verbong is a Full Professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), specializing in System Innovations and Sustainability Transitions within the Department of Technology, Innovation & Society. His expertise encompasses the history of technology, renewable energy technologies, power generation, energy systems, photovoltaics, and distributed generation grids. Geert's research is dedicated to the integration of renewable energy technologies into future energy systems. He holds a Master's degree in Applied Physics and a PhD in Innovation Sciences. Throughout his career, he has significantly contributed to various research projects funded by the Dutch Government and has served as a senior researcher and co-editor for a series of books focused on the history of technology in the Netherlands from the 19th to the 20th century. His recent works include a book on the history of renewable energy in the Netherlands (2001) and contributions to the Dutch Energy Research Centre (2005). Additionally, Geert has acted as part-time research coordinator for the Brabant Center for Sustainable Development at Tilburg University, and he currently serves as the research education coordinator at the Eindhoven Energy Institute. He is a core member of the Dutch Knowledge Network on System Innovations and Transitions, concentrating on the social dimensions of smart grids and solar photovoltaic implementation.
