Biography

Gema R. Olivo is a Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering at Queen’s University. With over 30 years of experience in the field of geology, she has conducted extensive research in mineral deposits and exploration projects across multiple countries, including Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and the USA. Dr. Olivo holds a B.Sc. in Geology and an M.Sc. in Mineral Exploration from the Universidade de Brasília in Brazil, as well as a Ph.D. from the Université du Québec à Montréal in Canada. She has been recognized for her exceptional research contributions, receiving the Premier's Research Excellence Award in 2003 for her work on hydrothermal gold deposits. Her research interests focus on understanding the mechanisms of metal storage and migration within the Earth's crust, particularly related to precious metal deposits and base metals, employing a multidisciplinary approach to improve exploration efficiency. In addition, Dr. Olivo plays an active role in various committees and organizations, contributing to the advancement of the geological sciences community.
