Biography

Gemma Smyth is a Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Windsor, known for her work in clinical legal education and dispute resolution. She has developed and directed several experiential programs, including the Externship Program, Judicial Internship Program, and Class Action Clinic at Windsor. Previously, she held the position of Law Foundation Chair at the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan, where she also served as Associate Dean (Academic). Smyth has authored critical texts on clinical legal education in Canada, co-authoring works with her colleagues Sarah Buhler and Sarah Marsden. She is dedicated to enhancing legal education through innovative teaching methods and open-access resources, including an open-source book entitled 'Learning Place: Living Landscape Practice'. Her research focuses on clinic law, dispute resolution, and legal education. In addition to her teaching, Smyth is actively involved in professional associations, serving as past president of the Association for Canadian Clinical Legal Education and is a member of the Judicial Advisory Committee and the ADR Institute of Canada.
