Biography

Gen-Sheng Feng is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus specializing in molecular signaling in cancer and metabolism. His research primarily focuses on elucidating fundamental mechanisms of carcinogenesis, particularly in relation to liver cancer, through the investigation of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes. In recent studies, he has identified dual roles of certain genes that both promote and suppress hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), providing new insights into therapeutic targets for HCC treatment. His current research endeavors include deciphering the genetic and epigenetic interactions that drive hepatocarcinogenesis, as well as isolating and characterizing cancer stem cells (CSCs) within the liver. Additionally, he examines the metabolic changes in tumor cells to identify early diagnostic biomarkers for liver cancers. His work also extends to understanding the signaling events involved in metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes, especially the interplay between leptin and estrogen signaling in controlling metabolism in postmenopausal women. Dr. Feng earned his PhD from Indiana University Bloomington and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto.
