Dr. Genia Schönbaumsfeld

Biography

Genia Schönbaumsfeld is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Southampton, specializing in Wittgenstein, Epistemology, Kierkegaard, and Philosophy of Religion. She has authored several significant works, including *Confusion Spheres – Kierkegaard, Wittgenstein, Philosophy of Religion* (Oxford University Press, 2007), *Illusion of Doubt* (Oxford University Press, 2016), and *Wittgenstein Religious Belief* (Cambridge University Press, 2023). She has been involved in various editorial roles, including Associate Editor for the journal Philosophical Investigations and member of the Advisory Board for the Nordic Wittgenstein Review. In 2020, Genia was elected to the Council of the Royal Institute of Philosophy. She has been awarded a prestigious ERC Advanced Grant for a five-year research project titled 'The Ethics of Doubt - Kierkegaard, Scepticism, and Conspiracy Theory', which aims to integrate Kierkegaard's existential epistemology into contemporary discussions on skepticism. Genia has extensive academic experience, having studied Philosophy at St. Hilda’s College, Oxford, Trinity College, Cambridge, and the University of Vienna, and has held visiting fellowships at New College, Oxford, and the University of Regensburg. She is a committed PhD supervisor, particularly welcoming applications focused on skepticism, Wittgenstein, and Kierkegaard.
