Biography

Born in Nola near Naples (Italy), Gennaro Scarselli will join the University of Southampton in September 2024 as a Professor of Aerospace Structures. He has previously served as Associate Professor of Aerospace Structures at the University of Salento, where he was also the Vice-Chancellor of International Affairs. He earned a Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, specializing in Aerospace Structures, from the University of Naples 'Federico II' in 1996 with full honors and achieved his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the same institution in 2001. His thesis focused on the mistuning effects on the dynamic behavior of bladed discs used in turbomachinery. Scarselli has been involved in research at the University of Naples since 1997, working on various programs and contracts funded by both private and public entities, including several European Union initiatives. His recent research interests include machine learning in Structural Health Monitoring, damage detection in composite materials for aerospace applications, morphing structures, structural dynamics, and acoustics, among others. He has also been an associate founder of engineering companies focused on noise and vibration. Scarselli has held visiting scholar positions at the University of Bath (UK) and University College of Dublin (Ireland).
