Geoff Eichhorn studied Geological Engineering at Queen’s University (B.Sc.E, 2010) and later worked as a consulting engineer in Calgary, Alberta, obtaining his Professional Engineer license. He has experience with large tailings dam design and geotechnical consulting in the oil and gas sector. Eichhorn's research focuses on geohazards affecting critical linear infrastructure, and he has been instrumental in the development of project management skills in geotechnical engineering for pipeline clients in Western Canada. He pursued further studies at the University of Cambridge, specializing in experimental modeling regarding the interaction of buried pipes and rainfall-induced landslides, which earned him the Turner Prize in 2019. After completing his PhD in 2020, he took a post-doctoral position at the Royal Military College where he investigated challenges related to permafrost and expansive soils. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Queen’s University, having started in 2023, where he teaches various undergraduate and graduate courses in geotechnical engineering.
