Biography

Geoffrey Baker is an Associate Professor specializing in English, Linguistics, and Theatre Studies. He earned Bachelor’s degrees in English Literature and French Studies from Brigham Young University (1991-1996) and pursued his studies at Freie Universität Berlin (2001-2002) and Rutgers University (1998-2006), where he received his PhD in Comparative Literature in 2006. Baker has nine years of teaching experience at California State University, Chico (2006-2015), before moving to Singapore to join the Humanities Division at Yale-NUS College. At Yale-NUS, he served as Head of Studies for the Literature program and as a Course Facilitator for the first-year course on Literature Humanities. His teaching primarily focuses on European literature from 1800 onward, exploring literary realism, naturalism, the interplay of literature and politics, and the relationship between literature and law, particularly in the context of the novel. He is currently serving on the Advisory Committee of the PMLA.
