Biography

Professor Geoffrey Beach’s research focuses on spin dynamics, particularly in the field of spin-electronics, which involves studying new materials whose magnetic properties can be altered electrically in nanoscale magnetic materials devices. His work aims to develop methods to store information densely and access it rapidly while understanding how magnetization configurations in nanoscale structures evolve. A significant thrust of Professor Beach’s research is to harness electron spin in magnetic materials to create innovative approaches for spin-based storage and computation. To achieve these goals, he and his research group are developing advanced instrumentation capable of probing magnetization dynamics at the shortest timescales and smallest length scales. They are also innovating new optical and electrical techniques to push detection limits and enable the development of new materials and structures that will meet future demands in information storage and processing.
