Biography

Prior to joining the University of Melbourne in 1971, Geoffrey Burrows worked variously as a secondary teacher, budgetary control officer, and lecturer at Prahran College of Advanced Education (now Deakin University). Over a 30-year tenure as a full-time staff member, he headed the Department of Accounting and Business Law, the predecessor of the current Accounting Department, from 1987 to 1990 and served as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics during 1993-1996. His research interests include accounting history and financial analysis, particularly within the sugar industry. He has consulted extensively for a range of private and public-sector entities, principally in the road, air transport, and sugar industries. After retiring from full-time academic life in 2001, he remained active as a researcher, consultant, and commissioned historian.
