Biography

Geoffrey Kantaris is a Professor specializing in modern Latin American film and literature, with particular interests in urban film from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil, as well as women’s writing and popular culture in the context of globalization. He teaches graduate-level seminars focusing on the spatial turn, spatial theory, and the theories of power and hegemony. Prof. Kantaris has published numerous articles and book chapters on topics such as urban film, postmodernity, women’s writing during dictatorship, and the theory of Latin American Popular Culture. He is the author of 'Subversive Psyche' (Oxford University Press, 1996) and co-editor of 'Latin American Popular Culture: Politics, Media, Affect' (Boydell Brewer, 2013). Prof. Kantaris welcomes inquiries from prospective MPhil and PhD students whose research interests align with his own.
