Biography

Geoffrey Kantaris specializes in modern Latin American film and literature, with particular interests in urban film from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil, women's writing, popular culture, and cultures of globalization. He teaches graduate-level seminars on the spatial turn, spatial theory, and theories of power and hegemony, including post-hegemony. Kantaris has published numerous articles and book chapters focused on urban film, postmodernity, women’s writing, dictatorship, and the theory of Latin American popular culture. He is the author of 'Subversive Psyche' (Oxford University Press, 1996) and co-editor of 'Latin American Popular Culture: Politics, Media, Affect' (Boydell Brewer, 2013). He welcomes inquiries from potential MPhil and PhD students about research interests related to his fields of expertise.
