Biography

Geoffrey Parsons Miller is the Stuyvesant P. Comfort Professor at NYU School of Law and serves as the Director of the Center for Financial Institutions as well as the Faculty Co-Director of the Center for Civil Justice. He holds a BA magna cum laude from Princeton University (1973) and a JD from Columbia Law School (1978), where he was editor-in-chief of the Columbia Law Review. Miller has authored and edited numerous books and has published over 200 research papers covering diverse topics within business law, compliance risk management, financial institutions, and ancient law. He has a notable professional background, having clerked for Judge Carl McGowan on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals and for Justice Byron White on the Supreme Court. He has worked as an attorney adviser in the Office of Legal Counsel at the Department of Justice and spent a year at a law firm in Washington, DC. Miller was on the faculty at the University of Chicago Law School before joining NYU in 1995. He has been a visiting professor and scholar globally and is a founding member of the Society for Empirical Legal Studies. As an academic leader, Miller has served on various boards and committees and was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2011.
