Dr. Geoffrey Payne

Biography

Geoff's interests include the connection between literary modes, history, and ideas in Britain during the long eighteenth century, with a special emphasis on solitude, social networks, and politics at home. He focuses on the younger generation of British Romantic poets, especially Byron and Shelley, and examines the connection between literary and political discourse through a Marxist Cultural Materialist lens. Currently, he is engaged in research related to the project on Solitude and Social Networks in British Literature during the long eighteenth century. He teaches various courses in English Literature, including capstone subjects that explore the interplay between literature and culture, as well as children's literature.
