Dr. Geoffrey Pickering

Biography

Dr. Geoffrey Pickering is a Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Biochemistry, and Medical Biophysics at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University in London, Ontario. He is a cardiologist at the London Health Sciences Centre and co-director of the Vascular Biology Group at the Robarts Research Institute. Dr. Pickering's extensive research spans vascular biology, focusing on angiogenesis and vascular regeneration. He has successfully led a team that cloned human arterial muscle cells and explored novel genes regulating vascular function, contributing significantly to the understanding of heart attack prevention and recovery. He received his MD from Queen's University in 1983, followed by a PhD in medical biophysics from Western University in 1990. His previous training included post-doctoral studies in vascular biology at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. A fellow of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology, Dr. Pickering has been recognized with numerous awards including the Young Investigator Award from the Canadian Cardiovascular Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation Ontario/Barnett-Ivey Chair. He is actively involved in multiple leadership roles within professional organizations and his laboratory's findings are published in renowned medical journals, showcasing breakthroughs in cardiovascular health.
