Biography

Georg Rilinger is an Assistant Professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management. His research focuses on economic sociology, especially the social engineering challenges in the digital economy, expertise in government roles, and the dynamics behind market creation and regulatory failures. His recent work investigates the practical barriers to effective market design, theories of secrecy, and the influence of economic experts on government processes. Rilinger's inquiries broadly examine how undesirable behaviors emerge and persist within market contexts. He completed his BA in Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin, followed by an MPhil in Politics from the University of Oxford at Exeter College, and both an MA and PhD in Sociology from the University of Chicago. Prior to joining MIT Sloan, Rilinger held a Postdoctoral position at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies.
