Biography

George Adamson moved to King's College London in 2013, having studied and worked in Geography, History, and Earth Science departments at the Universities of Manchester, Brighton, and Sussex. He brings an interdisciplinary background to his research, focusing on the complex relationships between climate and society. In 2016, he convened King's Climate Research Hub, a multidisciplinary research cluster that tackles questions at the intersection of climate science and society. He chairs the postgraduate Faculty Assessment Board in the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy. His research interests include cultural readings of climate, cultural interventions in climate change, and the application of Science & Technology Studies (STS) to climate change and historical climatology. Adamson focuses on understanding long-term variability in climate, particularly in the tropics, and how societies respond to climate variability, especially regarding institutions that create social vulnerability to climate-related hazards. His work is primarily located in India and the UK, with a special focus on the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO).
