Biography

Professor George Baillie specializes in Molecular Pharmacology with expertise in the area of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health. He obtained a BSc (Hons) in Botany from the University of Glasgow in 1988, followed by a PhD in Protein Biochemistry from the University of Kent in 1993. His postdoctoral experience at the University of Glasgow spanned from 1995 to 2006. He transitioned to a Lecturer role in the Faculty of Biomedical and Life Sciences (FBLS) at the University of Glasgow from 2007 to 2010, and was subsequently appointed as a Reader in Biochemistry in 2010. In 2013, he became a Professor of Molecular Pharmacology. His research focuses on understanding cellular signaling mechanisms, particularly those involving phosphodiesterase (PDE) isoforms and their impact on cardiac signaling proteins. Baillie also leads various research groups dedicated to exploring arrhythmias, heart failure, and hypertension. He has received numerous grants and has contributed to significant advancements in therapeutic strategies for cardiovascular diseases.
