George Bevan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Queen's University with cross-appointments in the Departments of Classics and Archaeology. His research interests include Late Antiquity, Syriac, Papyrology, Photogrammetry, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Bevan completed his BA with Honours in Classics at the University of British Columbia and received his MA and PhD in Classics from the University of Toronto, where he focused his dissertation on the troubled career of Nestorius, Bishop of Constantinople (428-431 CE). Bevan has taught Greek, Latin, and Ancient History at the University of Toronto from 2005 to 2007 before moving to Queen's University, where he was appointed in 2016. His teaching emphasizes the history of the pre-modern period and Digital Photogrammetry. He has engaged in archaeological fieldwork across Greece, Jordan, Bulgaria, and Macedonia, and currently collaborates with the Balkan Heritage Fieldschool to provide high-quality training in archaeology and heritage documentation for Queen’s students.
