Biography

George Biros is a Professor at the University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Oden Institute. He leads the ICES Parallel Algorithms Data Analysis Simulation Group and holds the W. 'Tex' Moncrief, Jr. Endowment Simulation-Based Engineering Sciences Chair. He earned his Ph.D. in Computational Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and completed a post-doctoral appointment at NYU’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. His research focuses on parallel algorithms, numerical algorithms, integral and differential equations, inverse problems, data assimilation, computational statistics, and biological complex fluids, particularly blood rheology and soft tissue cardiovascular mechanics. Furthermore, he explores medical image analysis. His contributions to the field are recognized through multiple awards, including the Hans Fischer Junior Fellow award in 2013 and several Gordon Bell Prizes. He is also a past recipient of the Fulbright Foundation Award in 1995. His work includes publications on various topics, including machine learning acceleration simulations and medical imaging.
