Dr. George Biros

Biography

George Biros holds the W. 'Tex' Moncrief Chair in Simulation-Based Engineering Sciences at the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a full professor with a rich academic background that includes prior positions as Associate Professor at the School of Computational Science and Engineering at Georgia Tech and in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at both Georgia Tech and Emory University, as well as an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Aristotle University in Greece, an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon, and a Ph.D. in Computational Science and Engineering also from Carnegie Mellon. His research interests encompass fast numerical methods and parallel algorithms for data analysis, machine learning, and uncertainty quantification, alongside simulations in areas like fluid mechanics and materials science. He also explores medical image analysis and biophysical modeling, particularly focusing on computational oncology and complex fluid simulations.
