Biography

George Frantz is an Associate Professor of Practice and Interim Director of Undergraduate Studies at Cornell's Department of City and Regional Planning. Frantz has a strong background in community-based planning and has taught field workshop classes in a variety of locations, including the Ninth Ward of New Orleans and resort towns in the Catskill Mountains. He has an active private practice focused on land-use planning and design, with particular expertise in urban design, comprehensive land-use planning, and zoning, especially in terms of agricultural protection and environmentally sensitive lands. His current research interests concern the evolution of environmentally and socially sustainable communities in Chinese American cities, as well as the impacts of Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling on agricultural land resources in northern Pennsylvania. Frantz received a B.S. in Landscape Architecture and a Master of Regional Planning from Cornell University in 1980 and 1991, respectively. He has authored numerous publications and has been recognized with several awards for his contributions to the field of landscape architecture and community planning.
