Biography

George E Hardart is a Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, serving as Interim Chief of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. He directs the Program in Women and Children's Bioethics at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. His research focuses on a range of ethical issues, including healthcare crises, clinical ethics consultation, family interests in medical decision-making, and ethical considerations in organ donation. Hardart received his MD from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, completed his residency in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and has held leadership roles in pediatric care including as a chief resident. Notably, he has been instrumental in developing a comprehensive Pediatric Ethics Committee and consultation service, and he teaches pediatric ethics as part of Columbia's Master of Science in Bioethics Program. His contributions to healthcare ethics include advisory roles with the New York Task Force on Life and Law and leadership positions in national certification initiatives for healthcare ethics consultation. With a focused practice in pediatric cardiac critical care, he attends in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit at NewYork-Presbyterian.
