George Letsas holds the Chair in Philosophy of Law at University College London since 2014. He is Chair of the UCL Research Ethics Committee and an affiliate member of the Philosophy Department at UCL. As a co-Director of the UCL Institute of Human Rights, he has contributed significantly to the field of legal philosophy. Professor Letsas co-created the podcast 'Jurisprudes' with Nicos Stavropoulos, and co-convenes the Yale-UCL Workshop in Legal Philosophy alongside Scott Shapiro. His previous role includes being the Senior Emile Noel Fellow at New York University during 2011-2012 and serving as Vice-Dean (International) at UCL from 2015-2018. His research focuses on a reason-based approach to proportionality in human rights law, the evolutionary interpretation of human rights, and critiques of the Margin of Appreciation doctrine in the context of human rights jurisprudence. He has published works in respected journals such as the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies, Law and Philosophy, and the International Journal of Constitutional Law. Furthermore, he is the author of 'Theory and Interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights' and a co-editor of 'Philosophical Foundations of Contract Law'. Currently, he is working on a book titled 'Status, Law, and Morality' under contract with Oxford University Press.
