Biography

George J. Mailath is the Walter H. Annenberg Professor of Social Sciences and a professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his undergraduate degree from the Australian National University in 1980, followed by both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Princeton University. Mailath joined the University of Pennsylvania as an assistant professor in 1985, was promoted to associate professor in 1992, and became a full professor in 1995. He was named the Edmund J. and Louise W. Kahn Endowed Term Professor of Social Sciences in 1998 and the Walter H. Annenberg Professor of Social Sciences in 2003. Additionally, during the 2006-2007 academic year, he served as the Alfred Cowles Professor of Economics at Yale University. At the University of Pennsylvania, he has held key roles such as chair of the Department of Economics, director of graduate studies, and director of undergraduate studies. His research focuses on microeconomics, with particular interest in areas like pricing, noncooperative game theory, evolutionary game theory, repeated games, social norms, and reputation theory. Notably, he co-authored the graduate textbook 'Repeated Games and Reputations: Long Run Relationships' published by Oxford University Press in August 2006. Mailath has been recognized as a fellow of several prestigious societies and has contributed significantly to academic journals in economics.
