George Mann is a Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland, having joined in January 2002. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa in Sri Lanka, an MSc in Computer Integrated Manufacturing from Loughborough University of Technology in the UK, and a PhD in Intelligent Control from Memorial University. His doctoral research focused on developing intelligent control schemes for process control in microgravity experiments. Shortly after completing his graduate work, Mann became a full-time research engineer at C-CORE, where he worked on applied research projects related to automation in underground mining. Prior to this, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Queen’s University, supported by an NSERC postdoctoral fellowship, during which he researched parallel manipulators. Currently, he leads research in Intelligent Systems, with primary areas including intelligent control, robotics, and machine vision at the Intelligent Systems Laboratory (ISLAB) at Memorial University.
