Biography

George F. Murphy, M.D. is a Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School and serves as the Director of the Dermatopathology Program at Brigham Women's Hospital. He is also the Program Director for the Harvard Combined Fellowship in Dermatopathology and co-leader of the HSCI Skin Program. Dr. Murphy received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his M.D. from the University of Vermont. He has undergone training in internal medicine at Boston University Medical Center and in pathology and dermatopathology at Massachusetts General Hospital. His expertise spans inflammatory neoplastic disorders of the skin, focusing on the role of physiologic cancer stem cells. Dr. Murphy has published extensively in the field, authoring and editing more than 10 texts on cutaneous pathology and over a hundred peer-reviewed manuscripts that delve into the mechanisms of skin inflammation and neoplasia. He has also held leadership positions within professional organizations, including serving as past president of the American Society of Dermatopathology and being an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
