Biography

Professor George Murrell is an orthopaedic surgeon and Director of the Orthopaedic Research Institute at St George Hospital and Conjoint Professor at the University of New South Wales. He graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1984 as a South Australian Rhodes Scholar and went on to Oxford, where he gained blues in athletics and completed his DPhil. He also received the Royal College of Surgeons Arris and Gale medal. With experience teaching and rowing at Cambridge, he completed his orthopaedic training at Duke University in the USA. His fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York earned him several accolades including the National Institutes of Health Award and the American Orthopaedic Association North American Travelling Fellowship. Professor Murrell has served on editorial boards for various journals and has received over 30 awards for his work in orthopaedic research. His research interests include the understanding, diagnosis, and management of shoulder disorders.
