Dr. George Palattiyil

Biography

George Palattiyil is a Professor and Personal Chair of Social Work and Refugee Studies at the University of Edinburgh. He has an extensive background and expertise in social work, focusing on forced migration and refugee studies. His research interests span social work with vulnerable populations, particularly older adults, refugees, and individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. He has led multiple research projects examining the health and social issues faced by refugees and marginalized communities, including the impact of COVID-19 on care home residents in Scotland and adolescent reproductive health in humanitarian settings. Palattiyil has been a Principal Investigator on various initiatives funded by the Scottish Funding Council and other bodies aimed at improving health services and social conditions for displaced families. His commitment to giving voice to vulnerable individuals is reflected in his work that merges social work with public health and human rights.
