George Pasut serves as vice president of science at Public Health Ontario (PHO), an arm’s-length government agency dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Ontarians and reducing health inequities. PHO provides expert scientific and technical support for communicable diseases, infection prevention and control; surveillance and epidemiology; health promotion and chronic disease injury prevention; and environmental and occupational health. It also focuses on emergency preparedness and public health laboratory services, supporting health providers and the public health system partners to make informed decisions. George has extensive leadership experience in public health, joining PHO in 2010 after serving as vice-president of prevention and screening at Cancer Care Ontario. His previous roles include acting chief medical officer of health and associate chief medical officer of health at the provincial Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, as well as medical officer of health for Simcoe County. He is a licensed physician with a medical degree and a Master's degree from the University of Toronto, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and the American College of Preventive Medicine.
