Biography

George Rodgers is a professor of medicine and the associate chief of cardiology for education at Dell Medical School. He is trained in general interventional cardiology and has been a practicing cardiologist in Austin since 1989, focusing on general consultative cardiology and prevention. His passion for medical education has led to the development of a heart disease curriculum at Dell Medical School. He serves as the director of selectives and electives in internal medicine and directs cardiology education for internal medicine residents. Rodgers is engaged in initiatives to improve access to specialty cardiology care for impoverished patients in Central Texas and has been instrumental in developing eConsults to enhance communication between primary care physicians and specialists. He works on team-based care strategies to improve the delivery of care to vulnerable patients. He is an active member of the American College of Cardiology, having served on the Board of Trustees for eight years, was chair of the Board of Governors in 2007, and continues to serve on national committees and writing groups.
