Biography

Georgi Verbeeck is an Associate Professor of Modern History and Political Culture at Maastricht University, where he joined the History Department in 1998. He completed his undergraduate studies in History and Philosophy at the University of Leuven, followed by a Master's degree in History and a PhD in History. Verbeeck's expertise spans modern German history, modern European history, political culture, South African studies, and the theory of the history of politics. He has held research fellowships in notable institutions such as the Institut für europäische Geschichte in Mainz and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Additionally, he co-directed the NWO-funded research project 'Terrorscapes, Totalitarianism Transnational Memory in Europe 1989' from 2011 to 2013. He has been a visiting professor at universities including the University of Stellenbosch and Malaysian Sabah. Verbeeck currently also serves as a part-time professor of German history at KU Leuven and is involved in directing Master's programs in 'Politics and Society' and 'Arts, Literature, and Society' at Maastricht University.
