Professor Dr. Georgia Persons

Biography

Georgia Persons is a Professor at the Jimmy Rosalynn Carter School of Public Policy, Georgia Institute of Technology, specializing in Political Science. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her doctoral dissertation was titled "Atlanta: Black Mayoral Leadership Dynamics Political Change" focusing on the mayoralty of Maynard Jackson, Atlanta's first black mayor. Her research interests encompass African American Politics, American National Government, Health Disparities, and Social Justice, with a focus on Policy Process and Leadership. She is recognized as a Fellow of the American Political Science Association and has received distinctions as a Ford Foundation Fellow. Georgia teaches various courses related to Government and Public Policy and has contributed to several publications, including the series "Contours of African American Politics."
