Biography

George Pavlakos is a Professor of Law Philosophy at the University of Glasgow, co-founder of the Law Philosophy Network. Previously, he was a Research Professor in Globalization and Legal Theory and director of the Centre for Law and Cosmopolitan Values at the University of Antwerp. He has held visiting professorships at various institutions including the University of Kiel, the University of Bologna, Beihang University, and the European Academy of Legal Theory. His research emphasizes metaphysics of law, relational accounts of normativity, and legal philosophy influenced by Immanuel Kant. He is an executive committee member for the International Association for Legal Theory and his works have appeared in leading academic journals such as the Pacific Philosophical Quarterly and Ratio Juris. Pavlakos is also involved in editorial duties with Cambridge ELEMENTS in Legal Philosophy and the journal Jurisprudence. His current projects include a monograph on a radical non-positivist approach to law and various others funded by prestigious grants such as the Leverhulme Trust. He is well-published and his work spans multiple languages and disciplines within legal theory.
