Dr. Geraint Howells

Biography

Geraint Howells is a prominent academic in the field of law, currently serving as the Executive Dean of the Business, Public Policy, and Law department at NUI Galway. He has previously held significant positions including Professor of Commercial Law and Associate Dean for Humanities Internationalisation at Manchester University, where he continues to be a visiting professor. His administrative experience includes serving as Dean of Law at City University of Hong Kong and overseeing law schools in Manchester and Lancaster. Howells is a distinguished legal scholar with a specialization in consumer law and product liability within European private law. He has contributed extensively to the legal community, notably through his role as President of the International Association of Consumer Law and as an editor for the Consumer Law Journal. His expertise has been recognized through various publications, ongoing consultancy work for governments and NGOs, and his involvement in the Acquis group, which focuses on developing common principles of European contract law. Howells was called to the bar in 2002 and has received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 2014.
