Biography

Gerald C. Chertavian is a Senior Lecturer in Business Administration at Harvard Business School and the founder of Year Up, the nation's largest effective youth workforce development program. He has had a successful career as a technology entrepreneur and a Wall Street banker. Through Year Up, he has dedicated his efforts to closing the 'Opportunity Divide' by providing young adults with the skills and opportunities to succeed in the corporate world. Since its inception in 2000, Year Up has served over 45,000 young adults and has been recognized as one of the top organizations using business excellence to engineer social change. Chertavian has served on various educational boards in Massachusetts and is an advocate for young people's potential in the workforce. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Bowdoin College, where he graduated summa cum laude, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to social entrepreneurship and education, including the Bowdoin Common Good Award and the NAACP’s Kivie Kaplan Humanitarian Award. In addition, he has been recognized as a distinguished alumni by Harvard Business School and has authored a book aimed at inspiring others in the field of social entrepreneurship.
