Gerald V. Denis is a molecular oncologist who serves as the Shipley Prostate Cancer Research Professor at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. His research primarily focuses on BET bromodomain proteins and their role in transcriptional regulation in cancer. Denis has contributed significantly to the understanding of how BET proteins, including BRD2, BRD3, and BRD4, function as transcriptional co-regulators in different cancer types, with a notable emphasis on breast and prostate cancers. He is investigating the links between BET proteins, abnormal metabolism, and inflammation, particularly in underrepresented populations such as post-menopausal African American women suffering from breast cancer. His lab aims to identify novel therapeutic targets in prostate cancer reliant on alternative signaling mechanisms, especially concerning patients with obesity and Type 2 diabetes.
