Dr. Gerald Mugford

Biography

Gerald Mugford is a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland. With a B.Sc. and Ph.D., he specializes in the areas of Population Health and Applied Health Sciences. Dr. Mugford has played a key role in enhancing the quality of the Clinical Epidemiology graduate program and has a commendable track record of securing funding for his research endeavors. His research interests focus on significant health issues including HIV, HPV, and the biopsychosocial aspects of healthy aging. Over the years, he has contributed to various multi-center studies, particularly the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging, accumulating a wealth of experience in managing cohorts of HIV-positive adults. He is actively involved in supervising graduate students conducting research in diverse topics ranging from psychological health to physical health metrics. Dr. Mugford’s teaching responsibilities involve mentoring core courses in Clinical Epidemiology, where he fosters a supportive learning environment. His published work spans multiple journals and includes collaborative research addressing the healthcare challenges faced by marginalized groups, particularly in the context of infectious diseases.
