Dr. Gerald Singh

Biography

Dr. Gerald Singh is a faculty member in the Department of Geography at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research interests are focused on the interplay of globalization, economy, and resources, with a particular emphasis on sustainable communities and regions. He conducts research that examines the complex dynamics at the science-policy interface related to climate and environmental change. Dr. Singh's work addresses the cumulative anthropogenic impacts on the environment and seeks to identify priority policy actions that align with sustainable development objectives, notably the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He employs a range of methodologies including quantitative and qualitative approaches, expert elicitation, and incorporates data gaps into his research planning. He has contributed to numerous policy reports and scholarly publications, delineating his findings and insights across various interdisciplinary platforms, with an emphasis on marine resources and their sustainable management. Dr. Singh has also been involved in significant research projects such as the APRU Pacific Ocean Cluster Project and was a fellow at the Nippon Foundation Nereus Program from 2016 to 2019. His educational background includes a PhD, MSc, and BSc, all from the University of British Columbia. Dr. Singh is actively engaged in teaching and mentoring students, guiding them in understanding the physical and social dimensions of geography and environmental sciences.
