Biography

Dr. Zamponi’s broad research focuses on voltage-gated calcium channels that control the electrical activities of neurons and their involvement in compromised neurological disorders. He has made significant contributions to both basic and applied science, advancing the understanding of calcium channel structure, function, molecular pharmacology, and the regulation of G protein-coupled receptors, as well as the physiological consequences of signaling complexes involving calcium channels. His research also investigates genetic mutations in calcium channels that affect patients with epilepsy and trigger seizures. Additionally, Dr. Zamponi’s lab employs optogenetic approaches to decipher the brain circuits that control the sensory and emotional components of pain.
