Biography

Geraldine A. Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Department of History of Art at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Christ Church. Her research interests focus on the history of sculpture from the late Medieval period to the present day, along with the visual arts of Early Modern Europe and women's contributions to these fields. Johnson has published extensively on topics such as the sculpture of Donatello and Rubens's female patrons and has critically examined the role of photography in art history, including the work of contemporary sculptor Richard Serra. She has co-edited significant volumes like 'Picturing Women in Renaissance and Baroque Italy' and 'Sculpture and Photography: Envisioning Dimension'. Her books include 'Renaissance Art: A Short Introduction', which has been translated into several languages, and she is currently completing a monograph titled 'Photography and Sculpture'. In addition to her research, Johnson is actively involved in curated exhibitions, including one at the Ashmolean Museum focused on sensory experiences in the Global Renaissance.
